Aces Coach Moves To Next Level

ANCHORGE — Davis Payne, the Alaska Aces bench boss whose penchant for subtle, often unorthodox moves generated rapid results that helped resurrect the franchise, is moving up a rung in hockey’s hierarchy.

After a four-season run in which the head coach turned the Aces into the ECHL’s most successful club, Payne resigned Thursday to become an assistant coach with the Peoria Rivermen, the Aces’ affiliate in the American Hockey League.
