ANCHORAGE – At the end of warmups before Alaska Aces home games, after other players from both teams have gone to their respective locker rooms, winger Bo Cheesman stays on the Sullivan Arena ice to provide one last piece of pre-game entertainment.
Stationing himself in a corner behind the east goal line, Cheesman collects a puck on his stick blade and fires it toward the net at the west end of the ice. Far more often that not, Cheesman “scores” and raises his arms in triumph as he leaves the ice.
That bit of theater has become must-see hockey for many Aces fans.
“For me, it takes the edge off the game and loosens me up,” Cheesman said. “I’ve had people this summer tell me they’ve never gone to warmups before, and now they go to see if I’ll make it.”
