Alaska’s “Ignite The Ice” Marketing Campaign Receives ECHL Award of Excellence

PRINCETON, N.J. – The ECHL announced on Thursday that the Alaska Aces have been presented an Award of Excellence for their “Ignite The Ice” marketing campaign.

The Aces received the award at the 11th Annual ECHL Marketing & Communications Meetings, attended by more than 130 representatives from ECHL teams June 6-9 in Atlanta. The Award of Excellence is presented by the ECHL to organizations that are first-rate, cooperative with the league office, compliant with league programs, and who distinguish themselves on and off the ice in their community.

The “Ignite The Ice” campaign capped off a three-year re-branding effort by the Aces, who changed their logo and team colors in the summer of 2003 while electing to be known as the “Alaska” Aces, in keeping with their statewide appeal. Vice President of Sales & Marketing George Sandoval and Public Relations coordinator Devon Parks spearheaded this season’s efforts, with Sandoval developing the actual slogan and Parks, who has an extensive background in graphic design, creating the logo and all of the collateral materials.

The 2005-06 campaign featured a variety of printed materials as well as television advertisements on GCI Cable and newspaper advertisements. Home games at Sullivan Arena featured a video presentation utilizing the “Ignite The Ice” theme, punctuated by team mascot ” Boomer ” and a guest igniting a giant “A” at center ice. Parks, who also oversees Alaska’s merchandise and specialty products, helped create a special line of merchandise focused around the “Ignite The Ice” campaign which sold out well before the regular season concluded.
