Americans welcome back Gill, Young


Allen, Texas – The Kelly Cup champion Allen Americans announced the signing of goalie Riley Gill and defenseman Kevin Young to contracts for the 2015-16 season.

The Americans are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s San Jose Sharks and the American Hockey League’s San Jose Barracuda.

Gill won his second ECHL Championship in three years, winning last season with the Americans and in 2013 with the Reading Royals. Gill was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs after going 13-4 with a 1.91 goals-against average. He led the ECHL in wins last season with 33 and was named ECHL Goalie of the Week for the week ending Nov. 15. A native of Northfield, Minn., Gill ranks second in ECHL postseason history with 36 wins.

Young has signed on for a second season with the Americans after putting up 44 points (8g-36a) in 71 games last season as a member of the Allen blue line. The former Central Hockey League Most Outstanding Defenseman Winner in 2013 has 148 points (40g-108a) in 209 career professional games.
