PRINCETON, N.J. – Atlantic City’s Jim Henkel is the InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week for October 17-19.
Henkel, who played in the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game, had a hat trick, including two power-play goals, in Atlantic City’s 7-3 win against Texas on Friday. He added a goal and two assists in the Bullies’ 5-2 win against Trenton on Saturday, and is tied for the ECHL lead in goals with four and is tied for second in scoring with six points.
Selected by Los Angeles in the eighth round (217th overall) in the 1998 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Henkel scored 68 points (32g-36a) in 68 regular season games for Atlantic City in 2002-03 while also appearing in two games with Cleveland of the American Hockey League. Among ECHL rookies, Henkel ranked third in goals, tied for third in shorthand goals (3) and game-winning goals (6), fourth in plus/minus (+24) and fifth in scoring.
The 24-year-old scored 15 points (3g-12a) in 19 postseason games while helping Atlantic City capture the 2003 Kelly Cup Championship.
