AUGUSTA, Ga. – John Marks sat behind the desk in his office at James Brown Arena recently, his words having a hard time keeping up with his thoughts as he discussed all things hockey.
From veteran free agents to young prospects, forwards to goaltenders, and even ice problems to locker room renovations, Marks seemed in his element.
There were contracts to fax and practice schedules to finalize. Marks’ to-do list was overwhelming.
An hour after discussing nothing but the needs of his team, the first-year Augusta Lynx coach finally began to address his own needs: furniture.
“And if anyone’s got an old sofa out there that’s usable, maybe something the dog hasn’t slept on too many times, and maybe a couple of end tables and a lamp. I could use one for my apartment,” he said.
Such are the priorities of the ECHL’s winningest coach.
