Bakersfield's Stewart named Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for March

PRINCETON, N.J. – Bakersfield Condors goaltender Brian Stewart is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for March.

The 26 year old went 10-2-0 with one shutout, a 1.75 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage in 12 appearances during the month.

Stewart won a team record 10 consecutive starts from March 4-26, the longest winning streak in the league in the last three seasons, and in the process helped Bakersfield win a team record 11 straight games. He allowed two goals or less in nine of his 12 appearances, including his first professional shutout on March 26 when he made 24 saves in a 2-0 win against Las Vegas. Six times during the month, Stewart allowed only one goal, including a 37-save performance in a 2-1 victory over Victory on March 23.

A native of Burnaby, British Columbia, Stewart was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team last week. He went 20-6-1 in 29 appearances with Greenville and Bakersfield, and led the ECHL in the regular season with a .927 save percentage and finished second with a 2.25 goals-against average.

Under contract to the Philadelphia Flyers, Stewart also has seen action in 10 American Hockey League games with Adirondack posting a record of 4-5-0 with a 3.05 goals-against average and a save percenate of .891. He was named AHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 2.

Stewart played four seasons at Northern Michigan University from 2006-10 appearing in 117 games and going 50-42-14 with 10 shutouts, a 2.53 goals-against average and a save percentage of .921.
