Big South Conference Hires Simpson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference has announced the hiring of Mark Simpson, who was director of media and public relations for Charlotte of the ECHL for three years, as director of public relations. Simpson will be responsible for the public relations of the Big South’s 18 Division I sports.

Named ECHL Media Relations Director of the Year in 1999, Simpson has been a staff writer for three years with Street & Smith’s The Sports Business Daily, a leading daily trade publication on the business of sports.

Prior to joining the Checkers, Simpson was director of media relations for the Mid-Continent Conference from 1996-98 before being promoted to assistant commissioner in 1997 Prior to joining the Checkers, Simpson was director of media relations for the Mid-Continent Conference from 1996-98 before being promoted to assistant commissioner in 1997, and was assistant director of media services at Northwestern University from 1994-96. Simpson was awarded his bachelor’s degree in journalism by Eastern Michigan University where was a student assistant in the sports information office for four years.
