Blue Birds Take Ice Again In Johnstown Saturday

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Johnstown Chiefs announced that they will turn back the clock on Saturday and will wear Johnstown Blue Birds sweaters for their game against the Reading Royals.

The first professional hockey team in Johnstown, the Blue Birds played in the Eastern Hockey League in 1941-42, disbanding after only one season because of World War II.

The Chiefs are the ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche and the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Lake Erie Monsters and the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
