Capitals Sign Steckel

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals announced that they have signed free agent center Dave Steckel, who played in Reading in 2004-05. The South Carolina Stingrays are the ECHL affiliate of the Capitals and Portland of the American Hockey League.

In his first professional season in 2004-05, the 23-year-old had nine points (3g-6a) in nine games with the Royals and also played in the AHL with Manchester, scoring 17 points (10g-7a) in 63 regular season games and two points (1g-1a) in six playoff games.

Selected in the first round (30th overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-4 and 190-pound Steckel played four seasons at Ohio State University, scoring 30 points (17g-13a) in 41 games as a senior in 2003-04.
