Boise, Idaho – Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Hardy Sauter announced Wednesday that two more players have been added to the training camp roster for the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads.
Defenseman Matt Case and goaltender Steve Christie have both arrived in Boise and are practicing with the team on Wednesday.
Case, 25, had been in training camp with the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars and is entering his second professional season. The Plymouth, Minn. product joined the Steelheads halfway through the 2010-11 season via trade with the Gwinnett Gladiators and ended the season as one of the team’s most-dependable defensemen.
Christie also joins Idaho after participating in an AHL camp. He was with the St. John’s Ice Caps, getting one start during the AHL preseason. He stopped 24 of 29 shots in a loss to Norfolk on Sept. 29. Christie competed in college at the University of Manitoba, where he won 46 games over five seasons and posted a career goals-against average of 2.50. He was the 2009-10 CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) Men’s Goaltender of the year and 1st-Team CIS All-Canada. Christie was a college teammate at Manitoba of forward Greg Beller, who is also in training camp with the Steelheads.
