CINCINNATI - The Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones announced that they have acquired defenseman Joe Grimaldi from the Gwinnett Gladiators in exchange for considerations.
The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens and the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League and the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.
Grimaldi, who will turn 22 on Aug. 26, had four points (1g-3a) and 74 penalty minutes in 21 games with Gwinnett as a rookie in 2007-08. The Gladiators acquired him in exchange for center Stuart MacRae on Feb. 19 from Fresno where he had three points (1g-2a) and 15 penalty minutes in 10 games. The Falcons acquired him on Jan. 15 to complete a Dec. 3 trade that sent defenseman Bryan Rodney to Elmira where Grimaldi had 14 points (2g-12a) and 53 penalty minutes in 36 games.
He also played in the AHL where he had one assist and six penalty minutes in four games with Peoria, five penalty minutes in two games with Rochester and seven penalty minutes in one game with Albany.
