RALEIGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League announced that they have agreed to terms with 2008 ECHL All-Star defenseman Bryan Rodney.
Carolina is owned by Peter Karmonos, Jr. who is also part owner of the Florida Everblades in the ECHL, who are the ECHL affiliate of the Hurricanes and Albany of the American Hockey League.
Rodney played in the ECHL each of his first three seasons and had 68 points (15g-63a) and 85 penalty minutes in 127 regular season games with Charlotte, Columbia and Elmira and one assist in three Kelly Cup Playoff games with Charlotte. He was selected to the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game, but was unable to play after being called up to the American Hockey League where he had 15 points (4g-11a) and 22 penalty minutes in 42 regular season games with Albany and led the River Rats in the postseason with three goals and six points in seven games. Rodney had 10 points (5g-5a) and two penalty minutes in six games with Elmira in 2007-08 after beginning the season in Columbia where he had 11 points (2g-9a) and 10 penalty minutes in 17 games.
The 25 year old made his NHL debut on Dec. 11, 2008 against Philadelphia and played eight games for Carolina registering two assists and averaging 12:37 of ice time. He also played in the AHL in 2008-09 and led Albany defensemen with 33 assists and 36 points in 58 games.
