PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL and its member teams mourn the loss and express their condolences to the family and friends of former ECHL owner Manuel (Mike) Papista, who died on Saturday at the age of 79.
Papista was part of Dayton Bombers ownership group from 2004-09 when the team ceased operations. A Detroit native, Mr. Papista was a respected lawyer and businessman in the Detroit area.
He is survived by his wife, Louise, his daughter, Anthy, son, Costa, daughter-in-law Lisa, and granddaughter, Eva, as well as his sister, Theano Johnson, brother-in-law, George Johnson, and sister, Alexandria Mallos.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. with Trisagion at 7 p.m. at Chas Verheyden Funeral Homes in Grosse Pointe, Mich. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in St. Clair Shores, Mich.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution be made to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church 21800 Marter Rd., St. Clair Shores, MI 48080.
