VICTORIA, British Columbia - Revenge is a dish best served cold — on ice.
Rookie Tim Crowder of the Utah Grizzlies admits he was “a little upset” in being cut by the hometown Victoria Salmon Kings last fall in his first training camp as a pro.
The Racquet Club of Victoria hockey graduate, and 2007 NCAA Frozen Four champion with the Michigan State Spartans, gets another chance at payback tonight and tomorrow when the Grizzlies (20-19-5) take on the Salmon Kings (26-17-4) in ECHL action at the Save-on-Foods Memorial.
Cutting the six-foot-two Crowder, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ fifth-round pick in the 2005 NHL draft, was largely a numbers thing and one of the tougher training camp decisions Salmon Kings GM and head coach Mark Morrison had to make.
Crowder hung around town and kept in shape by helping dad Dick Crowder run the Spectrum hockey school.
“Then my agent [lawyer and Vic High-grad Kerry Short] worked his magic and got me to Bakersfield,” said Crowder.
