COLUMBUS, Ohio - FOX Sports Ohio announced that former Johnstown Chiefs radio announcer John Michael will join their Columbus Blue Jackets broadcast team as an in-game reporter and host of the postgame show.
He was chosen as a member of the NHL Radio broadcast of the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game and was selected as the ECHL Broadcaster of the Year following the 2004-05 season.
Michael has worked the past two seasons as the play-by-play broadcaster for Lake Erie of the American Hockey League following two years with Springfield of the AHL.
Michael received his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame where he returned to earn his law degree and MBA degree. Michael worked for more than four years as a trial attorney at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Pittsburgh before becoming the play-by-play voice for the Hagerstown (Maryland) Suns, a minor league affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
Former ECHL broadcasters working in the National Hockey League include John Ahlers and Steve Carroll of the Anaheim Ducks, Tom Callahan of the Nashville Predators, Dave Goucher of the Boston Bruins, Chris Kerber of the St. Louis Blues, Dave Mishkin of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Bob McElligott and John Michael of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Rob Simpson, who is a producer/host for The NHL Network.
Former ECHL broadcasters working in the American Hockey League include Josh Fisher in Texas, Mike Kelly in Springfield, Eric Lindquist in Worcester, Pete Michaud in Norfolk, Mike O’Brien in Lowell, Joe O’Donnell in Houston, Jason Shaver in Chicago, Dan Weiss in San Antonio and Grady Whittenburg in Binghamton.
