VICTORIA, British Columbia - On a Bakersfield Condors ECHL team loaded with Anaheim Ducks-contracted prospects, low-key former Victoria Salsa junior Adam Naglich managed to latch on with a free-agent contract.
Knowing what minor-pro contracts pay, itŐs a good thing Naglich is proving a good son of his native Las Vegas with $73,230 in winnings so far as a neophyte pro poker player.
Naglich and the Condors, 3-1 winners over Victoria on Wednesday, hook up with the Salmon Kings again Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.
"It's great to be back in Victoria," said Naglich, citing long-serving local coach Don Robinson as a particular influence during his tenure with the Salsa.
A well-rounded centre with the Salsa [now Grizzlies], Naglich recorded 61 and 46 points in his two seasons with Victoria in the B.C. Hockey League before playing four seasons in the NCAA at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. The 25-year-old was tough defensively in the set opener against the Salmon Kings, breaking up several Victoria passes, and effective on the draws.
