ELMIRA, N.Y. - The St. Louis Blues' loss has been the Elmira Jackals' gain.
Goalie Chris Holt has played 29 minutes in the NHL, and he's yet to allow a goal at the highest level of hockey. He was on St. Louis' preseason roster, but the Blues apparently had too many goalies and allowed the 24-year-old from Vancouver to become a free agent. He signed with the Binghamton Senators with the hope of eventually getting a return shot at the NHL with Ottawa.
Holt was assigned to Elmira, and after sitting out with an ankle injury, he debuted last weekend by leading the Jackals to two victories. He ranks among the top goalies in the ECHL with a 1.97 goals-against average and .922 saves percentage.
"I feel good. My ankle's doing better; it's not bothering me too much. I'm close to 100 percent," Holt said after Wednesday's practice at First Arena.
Elmira will need him to continue showing top form, since fellow goalie Michael-Lee Teslak has been called up to the AHL Adirondack Phantoms, whose roster has been decimated by the flu. Holt is happy to carry the full load.
"Everyone wants to play all of the time," he said.
