ELMIRA, N.Y. - Yannick Tifu insists he's no savior.
Still, the addition of the skilled forward can't do anything but help an Elmira Jackals team that has foundered since opening the season with seven straight wins. In their last seven games they've gone 1-4-1-1 and fallen into a tie for first place in the ECHL American East Division with the Reading Royals.
Tifu has produced points wherever he's played, including the American Hockey League, where in 61 career games with the Albany River Rats and Rochester Americans he came up with six goals and 20 assists.
Elmira acquired Tifu last month from the Victoria Salmon Kings, but immigration issues kept the Brossard, Quebec, native off the ice except for practice. He'll make his Jackals debut Friday against the Wheeling Nailers.
"It feels good to finally be able to play. The last three weeks, it's been painful to only be able to practice and watch," he said after Thursday's practice at First Arena. "I won't be a savior on the team. I know the team is struggling. I'm going to just try to play my game."
