CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Cyclones announced that David Desharnais, who was the CCM Vector ECHL Most Valuable Player and CCM Tacks ECHL Rookie of the Year in 2007-08, has been called up to the National Hockey League by the Montreal Canadiens.
The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens and the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League and Hamilton and Milwaukee of the American Hockey League. Former ECHL coach Peter Horachek is an assistant coach with the Predators.
Desharnais, who became only the fifth rookie in the 20-year history of the league to be named MVP, was also named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team and First Team All-ECHL. He became only the fourth rookie to lead the ECHL in scoring with 106 points in 68 games and finished first with 77 assists.
He set the ECHL record with an assist in 20 consecutive games from Jan. 5-Feb. 29 and he had the fourth-longest scoring streak in league history with 27 games from Dec. 31, 2007-Mar. 12, 2008.
