Tyler Doig scored the game winner on a penalty shot to give Charlotte a 5-4 overtime win against Gwinnett on Nov. 29.
Since statistical records of penalty shots began being tracked in 1995-96 there has never been a game-winning goal scored on a penalty shot in overtime.
The last time that there was a penalty shot in overtime was in the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs by Tyler Haskins of Utah on Apr. 14, 2008 against Fresno. The last time there was a penalty shot in overtime in a regular season game was Feb. 10, 2008 by Chad Denny of Gwinnett against Columbia.
There have been seven penalty shots in overtime in regular season games since 1995-96.
