Charlotte Assigns Staal To Everblades

ESTERO, FL – Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced today that forward Jared Staal has been assigned to the team from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.

Staal joins the Everblades after opening the season with the Checkers where he saw action in nine games.  The 20-year-old is in his first full professional season after wrapping up a four-year junior career with the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League last season.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario native did however see action in the AHL during each of the last two seasons, skating in five games with the San Antonio Rampage during both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.

In his final season with Sudbury last season, Staal led the Wolves in assists with 37 and finished third on the club in scoring with 49 points.  Overall during his four-year junior career, the former second round draft pick by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2008 compiled 153 points (54g, 99a) in 249 games.

Staal, who is the younger brother of current NHLers Eric (Carolina Hurricanes), Marc (New York Rangers) and Jordan (Pittsburgh Penguins), was acquired by the Hurricanes from the Coyotes in May, 2010.
