Checkers’ Bahensky, Smith Called Up To Hartford

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Checkers announced that rookie left wing Zdenek Bahensky has been recalled to the American Hockey League by the Hartford Wolf Pack and that defenseman Kenny Smith has been loaned to Hartford.

The Checkers are the ECHL affiliate of the Wolf Pack of the AHL and the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League.

Selected in the third round (73rd overall) by the New York Rangers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and under AHL contract to Hartford, the 21-year-old Bahensky has 21 points (8g-13a) and 96 penalty minutes in 48 games with Charlotte and one assist and two penalty minutes in 10 games with Hartford.

Selected in the third round (84th overall) by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and in his third professional season, the 25-year-old Smith has eight assists and 79 penalty minutes in 53 games with Charlotte and has also played one game in the AHL with Providence.
