Checkers Re-Sign Messier

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Checkers announced that they have signed rookie defenseman Lyon Messier and that the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League have reassigned rookie defenseman Tysen Dowzak from Charlotte to Kelowna of the Western Hockey League.

The Checkers are the ECHL affiliate of the Rangers of the NHL and the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

The 21-year-old Messier has appeared in one game for the Checkers after playing in the United States Hockey League in 2007-08 where he had 17 points (5g-12a) and 45 penalty minutes in 46 regular season games and three points (1g-2a) and six penalty minutes in eight playoff games for Lincoln. He also played in the Ontario Hockey League in 2007-08 and had four penalty minutes in eight games for Erie and in the Western Hockey League where he had 11 penalty minutes in four games with Kelowna.
