Checkers Receive Saunders From Stockton

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Checkers announced that they have received defenseman Nathan Saunders from the Stockton Thunder to complete the Oct. 24 trade that sent Jeff Kyrzakos to Stockton.

The Checkers are the ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League and the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

The 23-year-old Saunders does not have any points or penalty minutes in four games for Stockton. Selected in the fourth round (119th overall) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, he had six points (1g-5a) and 79 penalty minutes in 31 regular season games and two assists and 16 penalty minutes in six Kelly Cup Playoff games for the Johnstown Chiefs in 2007-08. He also played in the AHL where he had one goal and 21 penalty minutes in 13 games with Providence.
