CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Checkers announced that beginning in 2005-06 the team will play its home games at the New Charlotte Arena which will also be home to the Charlotte Bobcats of the National Basketball Association.
The Checkers currently play home games at Cricket Arena.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Checkers owner and chief executive officer Carl Scheer at the site of the New Charlotte Arena, currently under construction in Center City Charlotte and scheduled to open in the fall of 2005. Joining Scheer in the announcement were Pat McCrory, mayor of Charlotte; Barry Silberman, chief operating officer of the New Charlotte Arena and Tim Newman, president of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority.
