CINCINNATI – Karl Taylor took a long, solitary stroll down the walkway outside of the visitors locker room Monday night.
For the competitive coach, it was too soon for reflection, too soon to revel in the aftermath of the Reading Royals’ best run in four years. No, Taylor was still lost in thought on what almost was this spring.
His underdog team took top-seeded Cincinnati to Game 7 of the ECHL North Division finals, but the Cyclones proved to be too much Monday at U.S. Bank Arena as they routed Reading 6-1 to clinch series.
“It’s very disappointing,” Taylor said. “It was probably the best team I’ve ever coached as far as how we battled and competed. We weren’t ready to be done; this wasn’t in the plans. This was very sudden.”
