Colorado's Nelson named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Riley Nelson of the Colorado Eagles is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Dec.12-18.

 

The 34-year-old forward scored four goals and added three assists for seven points as Colorado won three games against Mountain Division rival Utah.

 

Nelson opened the week with two goals and an assist in a 5-4 win on Wednesday. On Friday, he scored two more goals in a 3-2 victory, and finished the week with his third consecutive multi-point game when he tallied two assists in a 7-2 win.

 

A native of Cranbrook, British Columbia, Nelson has 22 points (11g-11a) in 22 games this season, his first in the ECHL. He has been with the Eagles since their inaugural season in the Central Hockey League in 2003-04 and is the club’s all-time leading scorer, recording 705 points (276g-429a) in 521 games. In 2010-11 he was named the CHL’s Most Valuable Player with 93 points (34g-59a) in 66 games. He previously spent time in the UHL with Knoxville and Missouri, and has skated in 32 AHL games with Rochester and San Antonio.

 

On behalf of Riley Nelson, a case of pucks will be donated to a Colorado youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 25,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
