Devils Sign Former Stingray Spencer

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The New Jersey Devils have signed defenseman Steve Spencer, who began his professional career in the ECHL in 2003-04 with South Carolina.

Selected in the ninth round (266th overall) by Nashville in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-3 and 220-pound Spencer had five assists and 119 penalty minutes in 35 regular season games and also played in seven playoff games with the Stingrays.

The 22-year-old Spencer scored nine points (3g-6a) and had 413 penalty minutes in 137 career regular season games and 53 penalty minutes in 15 playoff career games in the Western Hockey League.
