WINDSOR, Colo. – The Colorado Eagles, ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League and the Adirondack Flames of the American Hockey League, announced that they have signed Derek Rodwell for the 2014-15 season.
A fifth-round selection (144th overall) of the New Jersey Devils in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward spent the previous four seasons at the University of North Dakota. During his time at UND, the Taber, Alberta native registered 24 points (13g-11a) in 123 games. He also helped UND capture WCHA championships in both 2011 and 2012, while being named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in 2012 and 2013.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a very productive career at the junior level with the Okotoks Oilers of the AJHL, where he posted 101 points (44g-57a) and 146 penalty minutes in 158 total contests. During his final season with the Oilers, Rodwell potted 18 goals and added 35 assists in 55 games.
