The 6-foot, 195-pound blueliner posted 45 points (16g-29a) in 50 games with the University of Calgary over the previous two seasons and has also seen action in 29 ECHL contests with the Utah Grizzlies, collecting 10 points (4g-6a) and 57 penalty minutes during the 2010-11 season. Nyren has appeared in 15 AHL games, registering four points (1g-3a) with the Abbotsford Heat also in the 2010-11 campaign.
The Calgary, Alberta native has played as both a defenseman and as a forward during his career and spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Kamloops Blazers and Calgary Hitmen. Nyren notched 125 points (28g-97a) in 269 games at the major-junior level. He also captured a WHL championship with the Hitmen in 2010.
