Costello had 125 points (41g-84a) in 72 games for the Americans last season. The native of Johnston, Iowa won the scoring title by 45 points, as the next closest player at 80 points. Costello’s 84 assists were tied for the fifth most in a single season in ECHL history while his 125 points ranks as the ninth most in one season in league history.
He, along with Gary Steffes (44), became the first two 40-plus goal scorers in team history. In addition to winning the scoring title, he led the league in assists with 84 and power play assists with 35. He won the ECHL Sportsmanship Award, finishing the season with just 36 penalty minutes.
He was second on the Americans in points in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, finishing one behind Greger Hanson with 28. Among his other accomplishments last season included finishing runner-up for the ECHL Most Valuable Player Award.
