LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Wranglers announced that center Derek Edwardson has joined the team.
Edwardson signed with the Wranglers during the summer, but began the season with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League, who released him from his tryout contract this week allowing him to join Las Vegas.
In 2004-05 with Atlantic City, the 24-year-old Edwardson finished fourth in voting for Rookie of the Year after tying for the ECHL rookie lead with 41 assists while ranking third among league rookies with 64 points in 69 games. He led Atlantic City in assists and points while tying for the team lead in goals with 23.
He was voted to the ECHL All-Star Game and scored a goal in the National Conference’s 6-2 win and was co-winner of the accuracy shooting competition in the All-Stars Skills Competition.
The 5-foot-9 and 180-pound Edwardson also saw action in the American Hockey League in 2004-05, playing three games with Grand Rapids and registering two penalty minutes in two games with Bridgeport.
