WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Nailers announced that rookie forwards Bryan Ewing and Tommy Goebel and rookie defenseman Elgin Reid have been assigned to Wheeling from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League.
The Nailers are the ECHL affiliate of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL and the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League. The head coach of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is former ECHL player Dan Bylsma and the assistant coach is former ECHL player Todd Reirden.
The 23-year-old Ewing, who lived in Wheeling as a child, played the last four years at Boston University where he had 108 points (48g, 60a) in 143 career games.
The 23-year-old Goebel signed with Rochester of the AHL in 2007-08 after completing his college career and had five points (2g-3a) in five games.
The 21-year-old Elgin signed with Elmira on Mar. 29 after completing his career in the Ontario Hockey League and had five points (3g-2a) in five regular season games and two assists and two penalty minutes in four Kelly Cup Playoff games for the Jackals.
