Former Checker Weller Signs With Coyotes

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League announced that they have signed former Charlotte Checkers right wing/defenseman Craig Weller.

The Phoenix RoadRunners are the ECHL affiliate of the Coyotes of the NHL and the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League.

Selected in the fifth round (167th overall) by St. Louis in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot-4 and 220-pound right wing had 14 points (3g-11a) and 84 penalty minutes in 48 games with Charlotte as a rookie in 2002-03 while also playing in the AHL where he appeared in 11 regular season games and two playoff games for Hartford.

The 26 year old was team captain for Hartford in 2006-07 and had 17 points (11g-6a) and 96 penalty minutes in 56 regular season games while also playing four games in the postseason.
