Former ECHL coach Rick Adduno was named DEL (German Elite League) Coach of the Year for 2013-14 in voting by European sports writers and DEL coaches.
The head coach of the Krefeld Panthers, Addouno led the club to a team record 95 points and a second-place finish during the regular season. Adduono was honored for his accomplishment during an awards’ ceremony in Salzburg, Austria.
Adduono has spent the last five seasons with Krefeld after spending the 2007-08 season with the DEL’s Iserlohn Roosters. In six seasons as a coach in Germany’s top league, Adduono has posted an overall record of 161-103-30 while advancing to the playoffs four times.
Adduono first came to the ECHL as an assistant coach with South Carolina during the 1996-97 season as the Stingrays captured the Kelly Cup title. After two seasons as an assistant, he became the team’s head coach in 1998-99, guiding the Stingrays for four seasons and leading the team to another Kelly Cup title in 2001. Overall, in eight seasons as an ECHL head coach with South Carolina, Greensboro, Pensacola and Long Beach, Adduono posted a record of 276-203-48.
