DULUTH, Ga. – Goaltender Adam Berkhoel, who played for the Gwinnett Gladiators last season, recorded his first NHL win on Saturday night for the Atlanta Thrashers.
The 4-3 win came 24 hours after Berkhoel and another former Gwinnett netminder, Michael Garnett, watched the Gladiators home opener.
Berkhoel and Garnett, also backstopping the Thrashers this season after playing for Gwinnett in 2003-04, were honored for making their NHL debuts this season. Friday’s pregame festivities included highlights of the duo on the large video screens and they were roundly cheered by the crowd.
Berkhoel is the third former Gwinnett goalie to play in the NHL, joining Garnett and Adam Munro. He is now 1-1-0 in the NHL.
