INDIANAPOLIS – The Indy Fuel, ECHL affiliate of the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs, re-signed forward Pete Massar and inked rookie defenseman Ben Marshall for the 2015-16 season.
Massar registered 30 points (10g-20a) and 37 penalty minutes in 54 games during his first professional season with the Fuel in 2014-15. A native of Williston, Vt., Massar collected 15 points (8g-7a) in 51 career games for the University of Vermont in three seasons with the Catamounts from 2011-14. He began his collegiate career at Clarkson University where he appeared in 19 games. Prior to his collegiate career, the 26-year-old recorded 54 points (16g-38a) and 89 penalty minutes in 36 appearances for the Green Mountain Glades of the EJHL during the 2008-09 season.
Marshall netted 11 points (2g-9a) and had 20 penalty minutes last year in his senior campaign at the University of Minnesota. A seventh-round pick (201st overall) of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Marshall recorded 61 points (17g-44a), 127 penalty minutes and a +26 rating in 159 career appearances for the Golden Gophers from 2011-15. Named an Assistant Captain for his senior season, Marshall helped Minnesota claim the 2014-15 Big Ten Conference championship and collected WCHA All-Academic Team honors during the 2012-13 campaign. Prior to his collegiate career, the 22-year-old Mahtomedi, Minn. native posted 34 points (11g-23a) 34 penalty minutes and a +20 rating in 56 appearances for the USHL’s Omaha Lancers during the 2010-11 season and was named to the USHL’s 2010-11 All-Star and All-Rookie Teams.
