Gladiators agree to terms with Donald, Ouellet and Sparling
The Gladiators are the ECHL affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League,
Donald helped the Florida Everblades capture their first Kelly Cup Championship in team history last season. He earned three points, all assists, in the Kelly Cup Finals against Las Vegas. He finished the postseason with four points in 18 Kelly Cup Playoffs games. Donald earned 17 points (3g-14a) in 50 regular-season games with Florida. He also appeared in four games in the American Hockey League with Charlotte but did not register a point. The St. Albert, Alberta native split time in 2010-11 in his first full professional season in the ECHL with Reading and in the AHL with Springfield. He amassed 12 points (3g-9a) in 45 games with the Royals and collected two helpers in 13 games with the Falcons.
The 6-foot-3, 227-pound defenseman earned 24 points (5g-19a) in 123 career collegiate games at Yale University from 2006-10.
Sparling spent part of the past two seasons in the Central Hockey League with Laredo and Missouri. Last year in Laredo, Sparling earned 45 points (16g-29a) in 66 games.
The Sydney, Nova Scotia native played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Saint John Sea Dogs from 2005 through 2009. He earned 217 points (83 goals, 134 assists) in 247 career junior games with Saint John. Sparling skated one season under former Gladiator Brad Peddle who is the head coach at St. Francis Xavier University. The 5-foot-11, 186-pound forward had 11 points (2g-9a) in 25 games with the X-Men Hockey Club in 2009-10.
Ouellet completed his final junior season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last year. He earned 28 points (10g-18a) in 28 games with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens after he was acquired in a trade with the Gatineau Olympiques on Jan. 4, 2012. With Gatineau, he had 40 points (15g-25a) in 40 games.
The Alma, Quebec native earned 162 points (61g-101a) in 244 career games in the QMJHL with Gatineau and Chicoutimi in four seasons.
