Gladiators move to top of South Division
Playing four games in five days last week, the Gwinnett Gladiators picked up three wins to move to the top of the South Division standings with an overall record of 4-3-1 for nine points.
On Friday, Gwinnett doubled up Fort Wayne 4-2. Evan Bloodoff led the way offensively for the Gladiators scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist while Doug Jones and Tony Lucia each added a goal and an assist.
Gwinnett suffered its lone loss of the week on Saturday, falling to the Komets 1-0 despite outshooting Fort Wayne 43-30.
The Gladiators ended their trip with a 5-2 win at Evansville on Sunday. Chris Clackson (1g-2a) and Casey Pierro-Zabotel (0g-3a) each had three-point games in the win and Ryan Zapolski earned the win in goal, turning aside 29 IceMen shots.
Pierro-Zabotel leads the Gladiators, and is second overall in the league, with 12 points (2g-10a), and his 10 assists are tops in the league, while ranking second in plus-minus at +7.
Jones leads all ECHL rookies with five goals and 10 points, while fellow rookie Christain Ouellet is tied for first among first-year players with two game-winning goals.
This week, the Gladiators are home for three games, hosting Orlando on Thursday, Elmira on Friday and South Carolina on Sunday.
