Gladiators’ Turner And Sauer Head To AHL Clubs

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced that defenseman Brennan Turner has been recalled to the Binghamton Senators and goaltender Billy Sauer has been called up to the Worcester Sharks.

 

Turner was reassigned to the Gladiators by Binghamton on Jan. 25. He has recorded two assists in four games with the Gladiators and is a +1 in that span. Turner has recorded 11 points (1g-10a) in 37 games this season with the Jackals. Turner earned 21 points (6g-15a) in 62 games last year with the Jackals.

 

The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native skated with the Gladiators during the 2008-09 season. He recorded 14 points (1g-13a) with the Gladiators and added an assist in five Kelly Cup Playoff Games. Turner also earned four points (2g-2a) in 29 games with the Fresno Falcons before being re-assigned by the Chicago Blackhawks from Fresno to Gwinnett. Turner also skated in three games with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League during the 2008-09 season.


Sauer makes his first trip to the AHL this season as he joins Worcester. In 18 games this season with Gwinnett, Sauer earned a 6-8-1 record with the Gladiators, a 2.96 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage. He made 32 saves in a 1-0 win over South Carolina on Nov. 26 and earned ECHL Goalie of the Week honors.

 

Under contract to the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League last year, Sauer saw action with four ECHL teams in the 2009-10 season. He began the year with the Charlotte Checkers and earned a 1-1-1 record in five games. He appeared in four games with Toledo and then won both games he started for the Las Vegas Wranglers. He concluded the season with the Alaska Aces and earned a 1.55 GAA and a .936 save percentage in five games.

 

Sauer went 5-7-1 in 15 games in the AHL with the Monsters last year. He posted a 3.09 GAA, had a .901 save percentage and also had an assist on Feb. 6 against Rockford.
