Grand Rapids Assigns Peterson To RoadRunners

PHOENIX – The Phoenix RoadRunners announced that the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League have reassigned veteran defenseman Brett Peterson to Phoenix and that center Andrew Desjardins has been recalled to the AHL by the Worcester Sharks.

Phoenix is the ECHL affiliate of Worcester of the AHL and the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. The head coach of Worcester is Roy Sommer, who led Richmond to the Riley Cup championship in 1995 and was named ECHL Coach of the Year in 1995-96 after leading Richmond to the Brabham Cup title with a league-record 105 points. The assistant coach for Worcester is former ECHL player David Cuniff and the equipment manager is Vinny Ferraiuolo, who worked in the ECHL.

It was also announced that defenseman Tom Sawatske has been traded to the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for future considerations.

The 27-year-old Peterson has played in the ECHL each of his first four professional seasons and he has 74 points (21g-53a) and 334 penalty minutes in 278 regular season games with Atlantic City, Florida and Johnstown. He has also played in 23 Kelly Cup Playoff games for Florida and Johnstown and has five points (3g-2a) and 28 penalty minutes.
