Greenville Beats Pensacola 3-2 In OT,
Leads Series 2-0

PENSACOLA, Fla. – After two marathon games and a long bus ride, the Greenville Grrrowl can create an opportunity to sleep easy tonight.

Friday’s night’s 3-2 overtime victory over the Pensacola Ice Pilots gave Greenville a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five ECHL playoff series entering game three today at 7:05 p.m. at the Bi-Lo Center.

A Grrrowl victory tonight completes a series sweep of the first-round matchup.

Richard Pitirri (pictured) delivered the game-winning goal against the Ice Pilots 15:48 into the sudden-death extra period, knocking in a loose puck.

Greenville had won the first game of the series in overtime Thursday night, 5-4.

The Grrrowl are the eighth seed and Pensacola No. 1 in the American Conference, but Greenville took home ice advantage away with back-to-back dramatic victories.

The teams played the first two periods without a score Friday.

The Ice Pilots broke the double shutout just 37 seconds into the third period when Dwayne Hay scored.

Greenville responded less than two minutes later, with Jason Jozsa blasting home a shot from the point.

Pensacola hopped back on top with a power play goal at 7:45 when Aaron Phillips scored.

The Grrrowl’s Martin St. Pierre responded, throwing the rebound of his own shot into the crease, where it bounced into the net past Pensacola goalie Frederick Cloutier.

The Ice Pilots out shot the Grrrowl 25-5 in the third period and 50-22 through regulation, but Grrrowl goalie Mike Brodeur was up to the task on most of the shots.
