Greenville’s Riopel Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Nic Riopel of the Greenville Road Warriors is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Oct. 25-31.

The 21 year old was 2-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.50 and a save percentage of .944 in two appearances against South Division rival South Carolina. He turned aside 23 of 24 shots on Friday in a 4-1 win and then made 28 saves in a 5-2 victory on Saturday.

           

Riopel, who is under contract to Adirondack of the American Hockey League is 3-1-1 with a 2.76 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage in five games for the Road Warriors this season.

           

A fifth-round selection of the Flyers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Riopel went 4-6-0 with a goals-against average of 3.35 and a save percentage of .893 in 10 games with Adirondack last season. Riopel also made 168 appearances for the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Junior Major Hockey League from 2006-2010 going 94-47-14 with 10 shutouts, a 2.59 goals-against average and a save percentage of .915. Riopel was the QMJHL’s player of the year in 2008-09, set a league record with a 2.05 goals-against average that same season, and helped lead Moncton to a QMJHL championship last season.

 

Runners Up: Josh Tordjman, Bakersfield (1-1-0, 1.51 GAA, .957 save pct.) and David Shantz, Victoria (2-0-0, 1.50 GAA, .954 save pct.).
