GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League announced that they have hired former ECHL coach Chris Cichocki as an assistant coach. Cichocki will work his first game on Saturday when Grand Rapids plays at Cincinnati.
Cichocki is an assistant for another former ECHL coach Greg Ireland, who was promoted from assistant coach to head coach on February 10. The ECHL affiliate for Grand Rapids is Toledo and both serve as the affiliate for Detroit of the National Hockey League.
Cichocki coached three seasons with Arkansas and one season with Cincinnati in the ECHL, compiling a 127-122-39 regular season record and twice reaching the Kelly Cup Playoffs. He was an assistant coach with Cincinnati of the International Hockey League for three seasons, helping guide the team to three consecutive 40-win seasons and a berth in the conference finals in 2000.
