Grizzlies sign Barry Almeida


West Valley City, Utah – Utah Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham announced that the team has signed forward Barry Almeida for the 2014-15 season.

The Grizzlies are the ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League and the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League.

Almeida, 24, enters his third pro season after playing with the Cincinnati Cyclones last year totaling 26 points (15g-11a) in 47 games. In the 2014 Kelly Cup Playoffs, he totaled eight points (2g-6a) in 22 games as Cincinnati advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals against Alaska.

Last year’s trip to the Kelly Cup Finals for Almeida was his second straight after winning the Kelly Cup with Branham in Reading in 2012-13. In his rookie season, he skated in 27 regular season games for the Royals and totaled 24 points (10g-14a) while adding six points (4g-2a) in 15 postseason contests. That season, Almeida also appeared in 35 games with the AHL’s Hershey Bears and totaled 14 points (6g-8a).

Almeida played four years of college hockey at Boston College where he totaled 40 points (22g-18a) in 44 games during his senior season in 2011-12 where he finished the season by scoring his first pro goal in his first pro game with the Hershey Bears. He won two NCAA Championships in college, in 2010 and 2012, and was named to the Hockey East First Team during his senior year. In 2008, he scored the game-winning goal for the Omaha Lancers as they captured the 2008 USHL Clark Cup championship.
