Gulls’ Pederson Announces Retirement

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Gulls announced that forward Mark Pederson, who led the ECHL with 44 goals in 2003-04, has announced his retirement. Pederson, who was heading back to his home in Montana, was named as the recipient of the ECHL Sportsmanship Award and was named to the All-ECHL Second Team in 2003-04.

The 37-year-old Pederson joined San Diego in 2002-03, the team’s last season in the now-defunct West Coast Hockey League, and in three seasons he scored 187 points (96g-91) in 178 games. He ranks eighth in Gulls history for goals scored and 12th in scoring.

In 2003-04, Pederson led the league in power-play goals (18) and shooting percentage (24 percent) while tying for fourth in game-winning goals (8) and ranking sixth in scoring with 81 points.
