Hanson’s OT goal gives Allen 3-2 win in Game 5

Greger Hanson scored 17 seconds into overtime on Saturday to give the Allen Americans a 3-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers in Game 5 of the Kelly Cup Finals at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va. Allen leads the series 3-2 and returns home for Game 6 on Thursday.

The game was scoreless for over 32 minutes until the Nailers broke the ice 12:16 into the second period. Just after killing an Allen power play, Ty Loney found Jarrett Burton, and he beat Americans’ goaltender Riley Gill for his seventh goal of the playoffs.

Allen tied the game 3:33 into the third period as Chad Costello gathered in the rebound of an Eric Roy shot off of the end boards and slid a shot past Franky Palazzese for his seventh playoff goal.

Vincent Arseneau gave the Americans the lead at 7:35 when his shot from the left-wing circle eluded Palazzese for his eighth goal of the playoffs.

Wheeling forced overtime on a Cody Wydo power-play goal with 3:57 remaining in regulation. Mathew Maione fed Wydo in the high slot and he beat Gill with a quick wrister for his team-leading 11th goal of the playoffs.
