Idaho's Klassen named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Chad Klassen of the Idaho Steelheads is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 21-27. 

 

The 26-year-old center scored two goals and recorded six assists for eight points, and was a +5, as Idaho went 1-1-1 in games last week against the Colorado Eagles. On Wednesday, Klassen recorded one assist as the Steelheads fell in overtime 5-4. On Friday, Klassen recorded a power-play goal and tied an ECHL single-season high with four assists in Idaho’s 7-5 victory. Klassen concluded the week with another multi-point game, recording one goal and one assist, in a 6-3 loss on Saturday.

 

A native of Warman, Saskatchewan, Klassen has 21 points (7g-14a) in 16 games this season. He is tied for second among rookies, and tied for fifth overall in the ECHL in points. Klassen leads all first-year players with 14 assists and is tied for fourth among rookies with seven goals.

 

Klassen spent five years at the University of Alberta, recording 152 points (56g-96a) in 125 games. He also spent fiveseasons in the WHL, skating in 310 games with the Spokane Chiefs and the Saskatoon Blades. He made his professional debut last season with the Victoria Salmon Kings appearing in one regular-season game and scoring nine points (3g-6a) in 11 Kelly Cup Playoffs games.

 

On behalf of Chad Klassen, a case of pucks will be donated to an Idaho youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 25,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
