Stockton, Calif. – The Stockton Thunder announced that the New York Islanders have reassigned defenseman Andrey Pedan to the club from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League.
The Thunder are the ECHL affiliate of the Islanders and the Sound Tigers.
Pedan, 20, was selected by the Islanders in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. The Moscow, Russia native has played in eight games with Bridgeport this season and has played in 17 AHL games total in his career. He has posted five points (2g-3a) this season.
Pedan turned pro at the end of the 2012-13 season following this third year in the OHL with the Guelph Storm. He posted 96 points (26g-70a) in 174 games with Guelph and added 16 points (4g-12a) in 17 playoff games during three trips to the postseason. Pedan posted the most penalty minutes of any player in the OHL last season with 145 during his final season in the league.
The Russian defenseman represented his country at the 2011 IIHF U-18 World Championships in Germany, posting two assists in six games as Russia defeated Canada for the bronze medal. Pedan recorded both his assists in Russia’s 5-2 win over Finland in the quarterfinals.
